About Neil Fox CertPSA4

Investigator. Protective Security Adviser. Assessor. Internal Quality Assurer.

Operational and protective security advisory experience

Helping organisations identify vulnerabilities, understand risk and improve resilience.

King's Tree Security Consultancy Ltd was founded by Neil Fox CertPSA4, a retired UK Detective with 28 years of policing experience specialising in investigations, intelligence-led operations, safeguarding, investigative leadership and professional development.

Throughout his policing career, Neil worked across a broad range of investigative and operational environments, managing and coordinating complex investigations, supporting safeguarding and public protection activity, conducting intelligence-led operations and working closely with partner agencies to achieve effective outcomes.

His experience was developed through years of practical operational policing, often dealing with situations where poor decision-making, weak governance, inadequate procedures or overlooked vulnerabilities had already resulted in significant consequences for individuals, organisations or communities.

It is this operational perspective that now underpins the work of King's Tree Security Consultancy.

01 · Investigation

A Career Built Around Investigation

Investigation has been the central theme throughout Neil's professional life.

As a detective, he was responsible for the planning, management and progression of complex investigations involving multiple lines of enquiry, competing priorities and significant evidential challenges.

This work required the ability to assess information critically, identify risk, understand vulnerability, manage resources and make evidence-based decisions under pressure.

The principles that underpin successful investigations are often the same principles that underpin effective security and organisational resilience.

Understanding what happened.

Understanding why it happened.

Understanding how it could have been prevented.

And understanding what must change to prevent it happening again.

Those principles continue to shape the consultancy's approach today.

02 · Leadership

Leadership, Supervision and Operational Management

During his policing career, Neil undertook periods of duty as an Acting Detective Sergeant, supervising investigative teams and managing complex investigative activity.

This role involved overseeing investigations, supporting investigators, reviewing evidence, managing investigative strategies and ensuring that enquiries were conducted professionally, proportionately and effectively.

It also provided valuable experience of leadership, decision-making, governance, accountability and organisational risk management.

These experiences help inform the consultancy's understanding of how organisations operate, how vulnerabilities develop and how effective governance contributes to organisational resilience.

03 · Development

Developing Investigators and Professional Capability

In the latter stages of his policing career, Neil became heavily involved in the development of trainee detectives and civilian investigators.

He was responsible for mentoring, tutoring, assessing and quality assuring a continual rolling cohort of approximately thirty learners, supporting them throughout their professional development journey.

This work included:

  • Investigation planning
  • Witness interviewing
  • Suspect interviewing
  • Evidence gathering
  • Exhibit handling
  • Exhibit continuity
  • Investigative decision making
  • Report writing
  • Professional standards
  • Operational problem solving

Alongside workplace coaching and mentoring, Neil delivered classroom-based learning and professional development support designed to help investigators develop the competence and confidence required to perform effectively in demanding operational environments.

This experience continues to influence the consultancy's approach to training, assessment and professional development.

04 · Converged Security

Protective Security and Converged Security

Alongside his investigative background, Neil developed a strong interest in protective security, organisational resilience and vulnerability reduction.

He is qualified as a Protective Security Adviser and holds the SFJ Awards Level 4 Certificate for Protective Security Advisers (CertPSA4), an Ofqual-recognised Higher Technical Qualification aligned to modern protective security standards and practice.

The qualification reflects a contemporary approach to security that considers the relationship between:

  • Physical Security
  • Personnel Security
  • Technical Security
  • Cyber Resilience
  • Governance and Risk Management

rather than viewing each discipline in isolation.

This approach is often referred to as Converged Security.

For SMEs in particular, this perspective is increasingly important.

Many incidents occur not because of a single security failure, but because several vulnerabilities exist simultaneously across different areas of an organisation.

A cyber incident may originate from poor staff awareness.

An insider threat may expose weaknesses in recruitment and supervision.

A security breach may highlight failures in governance, training or operational procedures.

By examining vulnerabilities across multiple domains, organisations are often able to gain a clearer understanding of risk and develop more effective mitigation strategies.

05 · Defence Supply Chain

Supporting Engineering and Defence Supply Chain Organisations

Many engineering businesses and defence suppliers operate in increasingly complex environments where resilience, governance and security are becoming strategic business requirements.

Organisations supporting defence supply chains are often expected to demonstrate robust approaches to security, risk management, resilience, information protection and operational governance.

King's Tree Security Consultancy helps organisations understand vulnerabilities that may affect operational resilience, supply chain integrity, personnel security, information security and organisational preparedness.

Drawing upon investigative experience and protective security principles, the consultancy provides practical advice designed to help organisations identify vulnerabilities, strengthen resilience and support informed decision-making.

Whether supporting established defence suppliers, engineering firms seeking growth opportunities or organisations exploring involvement within regional defence and security clusters, the focus remains on helping businesses understand risk and improve resilience through proportionate and practical measures.

06 · SMEs

Supporting SMEs

King's Tree Security Consultancy was established with a clear purpose.

To help SMEs access practical, proportionate and professional advice that is often only available to much larger organisations.

Many SMEs operate within increasingly challenging environments.

They face cyber threats, insider risks, supply chain disruption, fraud, reputational concerns, safeguarding responsibilities and growing regulatory expectations.

At the same time, they often lack the resources available to larger organisations.

The consultancy therefore focuses on helping organisations understand vulnerabilities, prioritise risk and make informed decisions about resilience and preparedness.

Recommendations are designed to be realistic, proportionate and achievable rather than theoretical or unnecessarily complex.

07 · Martyn's Law

Martyn's Law Preparedness

As organisations continue to prepare for the introduction and implementation of Martyn's Law, many are seeking independent advice regarding protective security, preparedness and organisational resilience.

King's Tree Security Consultancy provides advisory support designed to help organisations understand current vulnerabilities, review preparedness arrangements and consider practical improvements aligned to recognised protective security principles.

The consultancy does not certify compliance but instead focuses on helping organisations become better prepared, better informed and more resilient.

08 · Training & IQA

Training, Assessment and Internal Quality Assurance

Neil's experience as a mentor, assessor and Internal Quality Assurer provides a strong foundation for supporting professional development and organisational learning.

Whether supporting qualification providers, developing investigators or helping organisations strengthen professional capability, the emphasis remains on competence, professionalism and continuous improvement.

The objective is not simply to deliver training, but to help individuals and organisations develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required to perform effectively.

Professional Philosophy

King's Tree Security Consultancy is built upon a simple principle:

Most incidents are easier to prevent than they are to investigate.

Whether reviewing organisational vulnerabilities, supporting preparedness, investigating incidents or developing professional capability, the objective remains the same:

To identify vulnerabilities, understand risk and provide practical recommendations that help organisations become safer, stronger and more resilient.
